Children’s Discovery Museum

Children’s Discovery Museum is the first children museum in Thailand. Located on the northern edge of Chatuchak Weekend Market, the museum has 8 galleries of 123 exhibits and activities located in 3 buildings and 1 outdoor space.

The museum was opened in 2001 to gives children a chance to learn about life around them through a hand-on approach. There are eight different sections in three buildings, providing insights into science, nature, culture and society.

The first building with 4 galleries feature the galleries of Body and Mind and Science where are on the ground floor teaches children about their physical history and show them how they were born, how their brains work and how their bones and bodies move. The second floor, the Science Gallery, encourages scientific knowledge through observation, assumption, experiments and conclusion. The third floor that is the top floor of this building is Technology gallery. Children can learn about various kind of technology such as computer, electricity, transportation and telecommunication. Also in this floor children will have an opportunity to experience the TV special effect such as blue screen that show how Superman can fly in the film.

On the first floor of another building is the Queen Sirikit Park Gallery. It shows her Majesty the Queen’s work about the forest reservation including background of Queen Sirikit Park where the museum is located. The other gallery in the first floor of this building is the Rainbow City, which is the special area for the younger children lower than 6 years of age to exercise their muscles and work as doctors, nurses, firefighters, and sellers and buyers in model markets. In the third building, the Nature and Environment gallery teaches about living creatures and biodiversity. The young ones can also participate in outdoor activities in the Kid’s Playground.

The last building located at the far end of the museum is the Nature and Environment gallery that shows live animals such as fish, scorpions, and rabbits.

Besides the 3 building, the outdoor space is the place you can relax and exercise with the playground. Visitors can try to be a carpenter and build an unfinished house, an activity very popular among the children over 8 years of age. The children can try to climb the giant space net with 7 meters high.
